2012 – Escape from Los Angeles
Modeling for: all trees, plants, & vegetation, many of the destructible buildings, several vehicles, & the destruction of Fairfax Ave.
2012 - Detail
For 2012 detail reel, I modeled and UV’d everything shown. All the buildings were built according to a water-tight specification for destruction simulations, so there are no intersecting surfaces. Every building has internal geometry as well, such as hallways, dry-wall with planks, doors, floors, pipes, elevators, etc…
WALL-E
In the first shot, I modeled the trash towers. The cubing is a shading effect done by another artist. In the next series of shots, I modeled the blast craters, and all the rocks, which I dressed into the scene using a “paint-geometry” tool that I partially developed. In WALL-E’s home, I modeled and articulated his rotisserie shelving units, as well as some of the props, including the cage of little duckies and the lighters. I also modeled and articulated his makeshift movie-watching setup, the broken TV and ATARI, and the umbrella.
Cars
On Cars I was put in charge of technical development for the Neon Project. Using a combination of MEL, tcl, and Pixar’s own proprietary modeling language “mdl,” I developed a modeling utility that enabled the team to quickly and efficiently create Neon lights using NURBS curves. Glass, blackened areas, and line-lights were created automatically by the system. In the reel I modeled most of the neon, as well as many of the signs in Radiator Springs. I also modeled and articulated the cacti, the fence around Mater’s impound, the painting frame behind Sally, the mattress on top of the minivan, the Top-Down Truckstop, the Route-66 sign, and the TV and stand.
Incredibles
I did the modeling and articulation for the Velocipod, the guard’s machine-guns, Helen’s tote-bag, the phone-cords (which were procedurally modeled using code written in mdl), Helen’s headset, the Omnibot’s landing site, the tanker-truck, the baby carriage, the Winnebago, the bus, many of the cars seen in the background, Violet’s impact crater, and the Parr’s suburban neighborhood.
Elfquest Previs
I did everything you see, start to finish.
